Nature In the Big City

Posted by: bigcityyoga Untagged

I don't care where you live, nature is always around us. I live in one of the biggest metropolis' in the world. In the Big Apple, skyscrapers pollute the sky with technology and human engineering.  And nature adapts. It has to. From the flocks of birds to scurrying monster rats, the city is filled with life. It doesn't matter what city you are in, there are some form of wildlife that lives in the open shadows.

In this big cage, I like to retreat to any nature spot I can find. Sometimes it's simply sticking my head out the window from my loft or getting a tiny bit of sun at the Park. It's important for me to reach out to Nature so that I can feel its healing effects. I am often out running the streets to the Park to gain any sense of the freedom I feel when I am around nature.

I feel its clean, vibrant energy that is not tainted by people.  Nature helps me find my breath and flow. I take with me the calmness I feel in Nature to my students in my class. As a yogini, I help others find peace in their mind and body.

I treasure my trips away from the City, but I have also learned to treasure the beauty of the City. In this human engineered island, nature is a part of it. Perhaps not as pronounced as, let's say Montana, New York has its own landscape and population. And I find it beautiful. I love the cooing pigeons and I want to see a sewer croc!

I embrace what I have here in my home. Nature finds me here, cause I take time to call her. I hope you do too.
