We have been conditioned to live in fear. We also have been told that our dependency on drugs and alcohol is an addiction. There is no right or wrong in this regards. I just want you to be clear and understand that you have the choice.

If you want to label yourself addicted, you have also labeled yourself weak, afraid, and a victim. That is your choice. By creating the self defining label, you will also create your reality.

Of course, if you believe that you can be free… if you know that there is a possibility, an answer or a miracle to rid yourself of dependency, then you shall find one.

You are not an addict. You are not sick, diseased, or lost. Life has simply presented you with tests and challenges that you have not yet mastered. Sobriety is one of them.

There are several approaches to sobriety. Your choice in this article says you are looking for more holistic cures to your dependency. There are different models we can explore such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

We must pave the stable base as we move up the ladder towards self actualization. We must have our physical needs accounted for, before we focus on the higher needs of man.

There is a reality to your journey. You will need to sleep and eat. You should have shelter and physical comfort.

We must survive before we can thrive.

Many of my thoughts are a combination of psychological training and spiritual connectedness. It is my belief that sobriety and happiness come from self awareness. In this awareness, three basic foundations will create the core of Sobriety. We will call them the Three Roots of Sobriety.

1.   The Physical Body:

Often we must address biological needs first. Before we can delve into the mind, spirit and soul, we must tend to our most basic of needs. Often, we neglect our physical health. By doing this, we tax our mind and spirits in our weak bodies.

Do we have enough to eat? Are we sheltered and clothed? Are their ailments and sicknesses in our bodies? Are our chemical balances in balance? Before we can be free, we must be physically strong and able.

Some use alcohol and drugs to mask physical pain.

2.   The Mind Body:
If you truly desire to be free from alcohol and drugs, you must also find mental stability. Emotional distress is not the best ally for sobriety. In turbulent states, turbulent decisions are made.

Our mind literally creates the reality around us. It subconsciously filters life through many tints and emotions. From social conditioning to global chaos, we have learned to process information that we receive from the external world.

We have learned to react to events outside of us. Some of you might learn to be the force that everyone else reacts to.

We must not only be aware of the truth, but we must also understand and live with the truth in complete harmony. We and everything around us are part of one a collective whole.

We must take the time to explore the baggage we carry. We must dive deep into our processes to understand why we do the things we do. We must address every heartache, pain and angst. We can no longer run from our demons.

Some use to mask mental pain.

3.   The Spiritual Body:

Once we solidify our physical and mind body, our spiritual body is also of extreme importance.

What is spirituality? We are not speaking of religions of doctrine and dogma. Our spirituality is what connects our body and soul. It is living life in the connected flow. It is our quest for human nature and our higher purpose.

If we learn to clear our minds, we shall learn to be free from our own self defeating behaviors. We live in a cyclical, self harming dynamic. If we allow our fears and insecurities to dwindle away, we shall witness and live the truth.

We shall see that all is one.

We will learn to let go of our fears. We will chuckle at slight mishaps and be focused for challenging obstacles. We shall live in peace and happiness.

Unfortunately many of us choose to live in darkness.

Some use to mask spiritual pain.

As the three roots begin to grow together, we shall build a strong foundation. There is no one aspect more important than the other. As the three grow and evolve, so will you. You shall understand your true strength and power. You shall no longer live as a victim. You shall be the one that others could lean on.

You shall reach enlightenment, or full connection.

You shall learn that there is little need to react in fear. You shall see the truth in everything. But this path may not be an easy task. But know that this task may not be a difficult one. That is your choice.

It is time to function out of love.
