Alcoholics Anonymous created this wonderful 12 step system for alcoholics. In time their basic philosophy has been used to create groups with all ailments such as drugs, sex, and other addictions. This system has been very popular even in this holistic movement.

Here at MonkMe, we look at everything and see how it can help us. As mentioned in the 12 Steps article, this process can be used for any weakness, negative behavior, or deficiency. Try it for your late night ice cream craving or for some major maladaptive behavior.

Who knows? If this doesn’t work, then try another. Find what works for you.

These aren’t steadfast rules. These are just guidelines, not a map.

Step 1  -  Admit It!

Admit you got a problem. How long are you gonna sit there and deny it?

To admit this, you have to be free and clear of mind. Admit you have fears and that these fears keep you from happiness.

Step 2  -  Believe In The Greater

Let go of that illusion of control. You can’t do it alone. What/Who is your higher power? It can be God, Universe, Spirit, or a collective group. Just believe in something greater than yourself.

Step 3  -  Decide

Decide to let go. Decide to be willing to change and make new choices.  Decide to love yourself and evolve.

Step 4  -  Make a List

Make a list of all you are. Your greatness, your faults, and all in between must be identified with truthful eyes. Don’t be a liar, be honest with yourself.

Step 5  -  Admit It To Others

Admitting it to others helps you embrace all you are and all you will be. Be strong cause you are going to need it to speak your truth. This is where we start to let go.

Step 6  -  Be Ready

It’s time for change. You cannot lose any more time to these stupid manners. Let’s be ready to let go of all the fear and ignorance.

Step 7  -  Ask for Support

Look to your higher power for the reminder that you are strong and supported. Ask for what you need. Allow yourself to evolve.

Step 8  -  Who’d You Hurt?

Make a list of all the people that have been burned along the way. How did your fear create hardship for others? Look through their eyes to see how you’ve wronged them.

Step 9  -  Make Your Peace!

Make your amends and speak your truth. Face your wrongdoings by connecting with those you hurt. This includes yourself too!

Step 10  -  You’re Never Done.

It’s a process. Every day you change. Every day you will have new challenges and opportunities. There are layers upon layers. Keep working and be mindful.

Step 11  -  Connect.

Take time to connect with your higher power. Clear your mind and be free from thoughts. Let go to gain freedom, peace and clarity. Meditate, play, dance or sing. You can fly and you can dream. Just be.

Step 12  -  Share.

Life is good. You figured it out and you are on a constant path of growth. Good for you. So what is your purpose? Share your story. Share your experiences. Maybe you can have others fly as high as you are. They are deserving of the same happiness you have.

Guide them. Participate and connect. Be grateful and graceful in speaking your Truth.
