Primal Scream: Unleashing Your Inner Beast

Sometimes we just want to scream. We have all this emotional build up and the best and only way to release it seems to be yelling at the top of our lungs. It strains our throats. Our muscles are waned. Our heart rate fires rapidly. But whatever inner turmoil we own, yelling lets it out.

Good or Bad?

There are times where yelling may be appropriate. I love the fact that I can boo and cheer with a crowd at football game. Its fun, it’s engaging and it allows me to connect with thousands of others who share my exact sentiment and that exact time. This vibrational connection inspires me, feeds me, and allows me to feel a part of something bigger than myself. So I scream away and enjoy living in the moment.

But often times, we are screaming at each other. In our constant fights of insecurities and blame, our yells are made to sting and make point. We yell at our dogs for trying to get attention. We scream at our kids while they bicker in the background. We go on tirades when our spouses hurt us. This type of screaming leaves me hollow and feeling empty at the core of my soul. It is exhausting, frustrating and painful.

So it’s not the screaming or yelling that’s bad. It’s just how you do it.

Beast Mode

A Primal Scream isn’t about expressing anger, fear or hurt. This action is about feeling our inner strength, our power, our fire, and our voice. What does your inner beast feel like? What about the warrior? Princess?

This action is about letting go of our self doubts and insecurities. It doesn’t matter who may hear us. We are no longer embarrassed to have others hear our voices and feel our power. We are sick of acting weak.

This act allows us to walk with confidence. We are proud and confident. We are sure and steady. We can easily make choices that benefit us. It is time to feel alive.

I Lost My Voice

It happens. We get caught up in life and we forget to speak out. We forget we are powerful beings. Don’t fret. Here’s how to find it.

1.  Find a comfortable place.

A beautiful natural setting seems to work for many. Screaming in a cave or out in the ocean can have strong symbolic meanings. Try scream at a wall or hollowed rock. This will allow you to feel the vibration of your power echoing back at you.

2.  Find a word that gives you strength and power.

This word should drive and motivate you. It could be a sound, a name or anything justifiable. Try not to use curse words. Children may be present.

3.  Allow the fire to burn.

Feel all the times you have allowed yourself to be weak and timid. Feel that emptiness in your gut. Then let your word build in intensity. You are no longer weak. Let that strength and power multiply growing inside your spirit.

4.  Let it out.

Just like a tea kettle, let it boil inside of you until you cannot help but let it out. It’s not about the loudness. It’s about the intensity. Feel your power. Feel your beast. Feel it alive. Allow your senses to heighten.

5.   Do it again and feel the “charge.”

Do it twice, three times or more until you are able to know you can face and accomplish anything. Thump your chest. Jump up and down. Say it with the truest bit of grace and love. Do what works for you. Wail until you lose your voice. Shriek like a bandit.

6.  Practice until you feel something.

Do not judge yourself. That is not love. If you are not able to release more than a squeaky whimper, do not chastise your spirit. Take this experience and understand it. Know why you have no voice. Know why you are feeling embarrassed or ashamed.

And grow from it. Try it again when you are in a stronger place. Notice the differences and work on feeling your true power.

If you are easily able to scream at the top of your lungs and not feel it… well then ask why? It means something.

If you can feel your power and express your inner beast with ease, it says you are ready. Ready for what? That’s up to you.

I wish I could tell you what it means, but each person has so many variables. But do some soul searching. Having some guidance and support may not be a bad idea.

So go find your inner beast. Express yourself.

    I totally get this! I love to scream and wail on stage. It makes me feel powerful. And luckily it doesn’t scare my fans in the crowd.

    I like to scream out the word “Peace.” I know it seems funny, but being at peace is powerful and strong too!

    Ha my kids will LOVE this. The other teachers wont be so happy so booo them! But what a great lesson for the kids though. We need more of this spirituality in the classroom. It;s not religion. It’s about being the best they can be.

    Hmm maybe we’ll do it in schoolyard or gym so we won’t get into too much trouble…. again :)
